Reading, PA.

We’ve got company coming tonight from PA., my BIL and his fiancée, so I’ve been in a mad dash to get the kitchen all put together and the rest of the house whipped into shape.  It’s at near 80% right now, but I’m about to give up and go eat olives and watch Vampire Diaries.  I put clean sheets on the guest room bed and cleaned the hall toilet, what more could they require? 🙂

I’ve finished up a lot of books lately and thought all of them were fabulous!  The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo was super slow for the first half, but the end was so exciting, you kinda forget that.  I also read 7: The Intern by Jess C Scott– It was a unique and cool story that dealt with lust, interning at a museum, and hip-hop.  Really interesting.  You can read my review here. Yesterday I beta read The Stillness in the Air by V.J. Chambers.  It is the first book in the second Jason and Azazel trilogy.  You all, go to V.J.’s website and read her books!  I mean, they’re there for your perusal for free!! Or, if that makes you feel scandalous, buy them on Amazon for between $3-$5.  Next up on my kindle is One Night with the Fae by Claire Farrell.  I’ll be sure to let you guys know how it is, I’m sure I’ll love it!

I added another 1,000 words to my PNR WIP last night, which now has an official title! Day of Sacrifice.  OOOHH AHHHH.  I also have a cover idea that I should be able to pull off myself without the aid of seven family members.  Exciting stuff.  Also, I talked to my little sis this morning and she’s going to have the cover for Glimmer done sometime next week.  Holla!  I can’t wait to see what she comes up with.  It is sure to rock.

That’s all the news that’s fit to blog.  I’m off to consume calories and get my shirtless Damon fix.  Yum and yum.

I love you just the backa backa wow wow you are.

I had a lot of profound things to talk about this Labor Day with regards to working for myself, but I can’t remember what any of them were.  My kids have been playing “Just the Way You Are” over and over on their keyboard and  trying out every single one of the 100 sound effects available to them.  (Bossa Nova, wiggity wack, wah wah, just the way you are!!)

So, what are you doing today?  Barbeques? No Reservations marathon?  I’m going to buy a new door to go between the kitchen and the laundry room and then get back to putting stuff away.  I have very little left to do, but what I do have is such a bummer.  There’s a massive paper sack holding the contents of THE JUNK DRAWER(S) waiting for me. Boo.  I would love to just chuck the whole thing, but the you never know factor is a bitch.  Plus, the hubs is already pissed about the amount of stuff I dropped off at the Goodwill .  I told him yesterday that only one of us was allowed to be a hoarder and it wasn’t me.  Somehow that didn’t lessen the anger he felt at my having given away four bar stools.  Ack.  (They were mismatched, too tall for our current configuration, and 11 years old.)  At any rate, that’s what I’m doing today.  Expect an epic kitchen porn post tomorrow!

Tonight I’ve got a lot of reading to do.  I’m a little over halfway done with Jess C Scott’s The intern.  I’m really enjoying it, but a bit tied down by having to read it on my computer, otherwise I would have finished it by now.  It’s about lust and hip hop and no I’m not averse to either. 🙂 I”m also beta reading for V.J. Chambers and am chomping at the bit to get into it.  So far September has been even busier than I thought it was going to be, what with the kitchen and all the reading and writing I’ve got to do.  I love it!

All right, enough dilly dallying.  I’m off to buy a door.  I do hope you’ve got something slightly more exciting planned!

The interview I did with Scott over at Indie Books Blog can be found here.  He posts a new interview with an indie author almost every day.  Definitely worth a look-see.

The much-anticipated 4th novel in the My Blood Approves series by fellow indie Amanda Hocking was released yesterday.  Amanda kicked all the ass there was to kick and Wisdom made it to #26 OVERALL in the Amazon rankings.  Many applause and PBR’s for Amanda!

I just finished the third book (like 10 minutes ago) in the Jason and Azazel Trilogy, Tortured, by V.J. Chambers.  Everything was wrapped up nicely, but left room for more if she wanted to write more.  I believe she is writing another J and A trilogy and working on the first book, Stillness, right now.  Goody goody gumdrops for me!

Okay, I’m off to read Mockingjay and neglect my children.

I heart Corian and reading.

Happy Monday you all!  Man, I don’t know about you, but I had one of those weekends where you’re trying to cram all the Summer you can into a couple of days and it just wrecked me.  Glad to be back to my almost normal life.

Today in kitchen remodeling news…we have countertops!  They are Corian and they are awesome.  I’ve dreamed of having Corian countertops since I was a wee girl.  Not kidding.  Some girls like flowers, I like solid surfaces that you can put a hot pot on.  Also, all the edges and corners are rounded so the kids won’t brain themselves quite as badly as they did with the Formica of death countertops we used to have.

Somehow over my crazyass weekend I managed to read two YA novels.  It’s called addiction, people.  I read the first two titles in the Jason and Azazel trilogy by V.J. Chambers, Breathless and Trembling.  I’ve got the third book, Tortured, all queued up and ready to read this evening.

Azazel has a funny name, but the rest of her life is pretty normal.  She’s been dating her football player boyfriend, Toby, since Freshman year, she has a fun BFF named Lilith, and she gets good grades in school.  Her only real problem is that she wants to lose her virginity to Toby like, yesterday, but he keeps telling her he wants to wait.  During one of their frustratingly chaste make out sessions, Azazel spots a boy running through the woods toward their truck, looking like he is being chased.  She immediately goes to help him and get him in the truck.  Toby helps too, if not reluctantly.

The boy’s name is Jason and as is the way with YA, he’s a hottie.  A mysterious hottie. 🙂  Because Azazel has adopted brothers and a few foster brothers living at her house, she takes Jason home with her.  Her parents are totally cool with this and try to become Jason’s guardians.  The only problem is, Jason doesn’t exist.

After this point there is a lot of good build up.  You know Jason is “something” but not exactly what and Ms. Chambers teases us with lots of meaningful looks between Azazel and Jason to the point where I was like, “Can somebody kill Toby please, he’s getting in the way of true love.”  At the Homecoming dance, Jason admits to Azazel that he has feelings for her and they kiss…and then things get super freaky in a way I was not expecting at all.  The stakes are suddenly ratcheted up ten levels and much craziness ensues.  I can’t tell you what because I am so not a twist ruiner.

The next book, Trembling, picks up a few months later and is an equally fun ride.  If you enjoy stories about secret societies, you will really find these books interesting.  They’re like the Da Vinci Code, but with 17-year-old hotties and lots more making out.  They’re also pretty violent, which I like, but if you’re looking for something strictly romantic, just be warned.

You can find out more about V.J. Chambers at her website, as well as where to purchase all of her books.  She’s also published the books to her site and you can read them for free chapter by chapter.  How cool is that?

In the blog carnival Why I’m Indie comments, author J.A. Marlow said that, “As a reader, this is as great of a time as it is for writers.”  I couldn’t agree more!  You all, read an indie writer, you will not be disappointed.  In fact, a good place to start is with all of the writers who participated in Chris Kelly’s blog carnival-you can read about them and then read their work.  Easy peasy!

Also, I started V.J. Chambers Breathless last night and let me tell you, if I could have sent you all telepathic “read this” vibes from my cozy place in bed, I would have.  Instead, I had to wait until this morning.  She’s a YA author and she has several books out.  And I’m a gonna have to buy all of them.  So good!

My friend (in my head) Amanda Hocking, has a new book coming out on Monday or thereabouts-it’s a little hit or miss with Amazon, kinda hard to plan these things.  The book is Wisdom, the 4th installment in her My Blood Approves series.  I heart her books a lot a lot.

That is all I’ve got for you this morning.  I’m off to read and enjoy my Oregon cloudiness that has returned.  Have a great rest of the weekend!
